Boyfriend coming to family Thanksgiving…?
I am bringing my boyfriend to my extended family’s Thanksgiving dinner/weekend this year. My boyfriend, who I love dearly and respect very much, is very academic, and does not refrain from being so. My extended family, who I love dearly and respect very much, however- if I may exaggerate- despises fancy book learnin’.
My Mother will be there as well and has, I’m afraid, already prepped them for taunting a fancy-nancy school boy.
I wouldn’t seek to avoid a “Stephen Colbert at the Press Correspondents’ Dinner” scenario completely, but any help on preventing the whole weekend from turning into one uncomfortable after party would be appreciated.
Thankfully, we got a room at a Bed and Breakfast nearby.
Well I’m Sorry to say but if you plan on living a long time with him (engagement, and eventually Marriage) eventually you’re going to have to introduce your BF to your family and either they’re going to love him or hate him. Also, he’s going to have to be able to take the blows and if he’s good shoot them back at them. Just make sure he keeps it respectful. From what I hear, your family is a salt of the earth type. If he can take it and also whip it out, I believe your family will accept him as one of your own. Either that or keep him and drop the family (not a good option)
