Broken sewing machine (brother xr4040)?
Hi so before I used to step on the sewing machine foot and the needle wouldn’t go all the way in the hole in the needle plate (I don’t know what it’s called) and would go slightly up and down while making a “boom, boom, boom” sound and i think it was jammed with thread so I tried to break the thread with the hand wheel to continue sewing and it went “boom” again and was smoothly going up and down so I thought it was fixed long story short the thread in the bobbin case wont keep the thread in the cloth (the thread in the needle will go in the cloth but wont stay in)
Sorry I know it’s kind of confusing but if you want me to try to simplify it I will try
Run through the steps of the “10 minute sewing machine tuneup” here. I can’t tell what’s going on exactly from your description, but it sounds like the machine probably still has bits of thread and maybe even fabric from previous jams, needs a new needle, and proper rethreading.

Do you have the manual for the machine? If not: http://www.brother-usa.com/manuals/default.aspx?PGID=3&R3ModelID=xr4040
